What does the assessment process involve?

Our process is designed to provide comprehensive support for your child.

It involves:

1. Initial Meeting with parents and the child to explore backgrounds and establish a connection with the child.

2. Assessment: We utilise relevant assessments, including self-report tools. These tools can be completed by the child, parents, and teachers if necessary, offering a holistic impression of the child's needs.

3. Comprehensive Report: Following the assessments, Kookaburra Counselling prepares a detailed report. This report can be utilised by the school, GP, and other health professionals as needed.

It's important to note  that this isn't a formal diagnosis but the initial step in supporting your child and identifying the potential need for further investigation. Diagnosis is conducted by qualified mental health professionals (psychologists, paediatricians, and psychiatrists). They integrate these assessment findings, along with other tools, into their diagnostic process.

For parents facing time constraints and lengthy waits for other healthcare professionals, the resulting report will be crucial in helping your child access the necessary support at school.

Make that first step...
